Love and Trust

I trusted you, I gave my heart to you. You broke my spirit and my heart. You were my life, my sunshine, my world, and I thought I was yours.

One day we went for a ride and I was so happy. You stopped the car and we got out, I thought we were going for a walk in the woods together.

But you left me standing by the edge of the road! I tried to catch you as you drove away, but you kept going faster until I fell over from exhaustion and you disappeared into the sunset.

I waited and waited for days and weeks, yet you never returned. My feet were raw, my stomach hurt from being so hungry, yet I waited. I loved you and thought you loved me! I was sure you would come back for me, but the weeks passed and you never returned.

When you were sick I sat with you. When you needed a friend I was there for you. When you needed a shoulder to cry on I was there for you.

How could you leave me that way? How could you break my heart? Did my love and devotion mean nothing to you? I hope you are proud of yourself. I almost died waiting for you to come back for me!

Someone did care, she stopped to help me and now I am at the Rescue. The Rescue volunteers tell me that someday I will trust again and love again, but never as I trusted and loved you!

You, my friend, taught me a hard lesson, humans are not dog's best friend!
