When my owners no longer wanted me, they took me to the Fairfield County Dog Adoption Center & Shelter!! They cared so little about me they even lied and said they found me roaming the country roads in Fairfield County! I thought they were my family but they dumped me and never looked back! Now that I look back at it from the safety of Harlequin Haven, that was the kindest thing they had ever done for me!!

The wonderful people at the Animal Shelter immediately took me to the veterinarian and found that I was loaded with whip worms and I am suffering from a horrible UTI!! Much to everyone's surprise, however, I am heartworm negative! I was immediately started on medicine for both the worms and my infection. I was even given a special food so as not to upset my belly!! Within minutes of my stray time being up I was picked up and taken to Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue!!  Between the shelter and the Harlequin Haven volunteer, I have never felt so loved!!

When I arrived at Harlequin Haven I was taken straight back to the grooming area and given a wonderful bath!! I reeked of urine and poop!! With this horrible UTI, I cannot control it leaking out and, well, the worms gave me diarrhea!! The bath felt so good, and NOW I smell great!! Next I was weighed. Besides ignoring much needed medical care, I guess my owners also ignored feeding me. I weigh a whopping 91.6 pounds... I am about 50 pounds underweight!! After gentle care for my immediate needs, I was given an elevated Kuranda bed with a very soft bed on top AND a snuggly blanket. It sure is different from the hard ground!  And, there are a ton of toys!! To top it off, every few hours I am given yummy food and my medicine as needed!!  Add in dog biscuits and treats every time I go out to potty, which, between you and me right now, is quite often!!

It'll be a while before I am available for adoption, but while I wait for my forever family, I know I have come to the perfect place to heal, with the nutrition needed to reach my ideal weight, and love and kindness to heal my spirit. Grandma here at the rescue said that I will be getting some new pictures real soon!

Update 7/9: I have only been here 7 days and I have already gained weight!! I NOW weigh 102 pounds!!
Update 7/18: Well I have not gained as much weight this week but Grandma says it is because I am playing too much!! I feel so much better I just want to play with Vanna Mae and Festus!! I now weigh 105.4 pounds!! I also got a couple of new pictures today! Check them out below!!
Update 7/25: Just a quick update! I have been diagnosed with a pancreatic abscess. At this time I am on 3 different antibiotics and hopefully they work if not I may need surgery.  I will keep you updated! Please keep me in your prayers!!!
Update 8/5: Sorry I have not been better at giving updates but to be honest I feel so good that all I want to do is play!!! The antibiotics apparently are working because I no longer have to urinate constantly and I am no longer wetting the bed!! Do YOU know how embarrassing that is!!! I NOW weigh 113.4 and I am still enjoying 4 meals a day PLUS treats!!! Ya know a guy could get used to this treatment!!
Update 8/15: Well a quick update!! I go to the vet Wednesday for another Ultrasound to check my pancreas and toes crossed it is not so full of infection. I am feeling so much better and I only pee when I have too so it is not just running out of me!! I am still eating 4 meals a day and I am enjoying every minute!! YUMMY!!  I also got some new pictures taken yesterday, check them out below!! Isn't it amazing what some food and antibiotics will do for a dog!! Oh yeah I promise to update you as soon as I get home from the Vets office!

Update 8/21:  Sorry I did not give you an update but I was so excited I just was enjoying life!! My ultra sound showed that the antibiotics had worked and my infection is cleared up!!! I will stay on the antibiotics for 2 more weeks then I will be available for adoption!! I am sooooo happy!!!

Update 9/05:  I am NOW ready for adoption!!! Okay where are all you wonderful families that want a handsome harlequin male?? FYI, Grandma did not do bad at guessing how much underweight I was when I came in. She guessed I should weigh about 140 pounds and it turns out my ideal weight is 135!! Okay NOW where are those applications????

Please can you spare a few dollars to help the Rescue continue to help me and other Danes like me? It would be greatly appreciated. Without the Rescue who knows where we would have ended up!!
Thanks, Ihan
