Holiday Safety Part 2 Make the holidays safe for your dog: Provide your dog with some extra love and attention and let them know they're not forgotten during the busy holiday season. Take your dog for a walk it'll help you both to relieve some of that holiday stress and maybe a few pounds. Give your dog a healthy treat instead of food off the table. When doing your holiday shopping don't forget to get your dog a new toy or bed something to make his/her holiday special as well!Holidays can bring stress to all of us, and dogs are no exception. When routines are disrupted and new activities occur, your dog may be the first to notice. Follow these tips to make the holidays and other events more relaxing for everyone, including your dog. Give your dog his/her own quiet space to retreat to, complete with fresh water, soft music, and a soft bed to snuggle up with his favorite toy in. If you are having guest over make sure they know
your dogs routine and they keep doors and gates closed. Let your guest
know upon arrival if they are allowed to give your dog treats and if so
how many and what kind. If your celebration includes adult beverages, be
sure to place your unattended alcoholic drinks where dogs cannot get to
them. If ingested, your dog could become weak, ill and may even go into a
coma, possibly resulting in death from respiratory failure.
As your guest come and go, there will be many
opportunities for your dog to escape. Make sure that your dog is wearing a
current identification tag, his/her dog license and if your dog is not
already microchipped get it done now! Safety is always best so put your
dog in a room or on a leash when your guest are coming and going. Always keep your veterinarian's phone number handy,
along with the number of the nearest emergency clinic and the animal
poison control center, in case of emergency.
