Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue

Kyra

I was thrown out on the busy streets of Columbus to fend for myself. I was not doing to well, but I was lucky and a nice Dog Warden picked me up and took me to the Franklin County Animal Shelter. I was given a really nice bed and plenty of food. Even with all the love and care I was receiving I was terrified of what was going to happen next!! I thought when my stray time was up I would be euthanized but instead I was brought to the rescue!!! When I arrived at the rescue all everyone kept saying was WHY! WHY would someone be so cruel to dump a sweet old girl on the streets to die?

Within 24 hours of arriving at the rescue I was rushed to the Vet for emergency surgery. I had Pyometra. (Pyometra is an abscessed, pus-filled infected uterus. Toxins and bacteria leak across the uterine walls and into the bloodstream causing life-threatening toxic effects, Without treatment death is inevitable.) When Grandma put me in the van to go to the Vet I was terrified I was going to be dumped again but I quickly realized how much I was loved at the rescue!!

Update: I am back at the rescue and doing great! While I was having emergency surgery they also removed 2 teeth because they were rotten and removed a couple of lumps.

Update September 20: I continue to heal from my surgery and am getting stronger everyday. Grandma says I like to talk a lot, but I disagree!!

Update September 30: I am all healed from my surgery and am enjoying life! Since I am older I am needing drugs to help me get up and move around but the drugs are working and I am getting around really well!! Occasionally I have problems getting up but Grandma is always there to help me! She says that may get better as I build muscle in my rear legs! My favorite time of day is of course meal time and I love getting fed while I am lounging on the couch but Grandma tells me that I have to get up and go eat that not many people are going to serve me meals while I lay on their couch!! Of course I do not understand this!!!

Update October 12: I am ready for adoption but Grandma told me not to get my hopes up too much because few people want an old Dane with a weak rear end! Oh well guess if no one wants me I can stay at Grandma's house and sleep on her couch!!

Please can you spare a few dollars to help the Rescue continue to help me and other Danes like me it would be greatly  appreciated. Without the rescue I would be dead!!
Thanks, Kyra
